A couple of days ago, over the weekend, I found myself drawing some plants.
It reminded me of our Cretan travels where I used to take my notebook and sketch away any lovely plants I’d encounter. Last fall when we were there, just a little less than a year ago, I got inspired by the local herbs & fully ripened fruit trees, so I drew rosemary, thyme, fig and olive branches. It was an incredibly relaxing experience and I don’t even remember how I got into it.
It’s usually very hard for me to just pick up a simple pen and start drawing spontaneously. With our lives being so rhythmical, every act is justified, every creative thing we do is actually because of a project we have planned: a project we’re hired to do, another thing on our to do list or something we have planned, like a blogpost. Which was actually the reason why I started drawing plants again. Not so spontaneous!
With our project Orla Collective, we thought about posting an article about de-stressing herbs(link here). I have personally been very fond of a few of them and teamed up with my naturopath to create a list of the best herbs to take during stressful periods. As we mostly like to come up with our own visuals for the articles we post, I thought I had to get on and create some illustrations. And this was just such a perfectly balancing thing to do. Just sketching plants on a sunday afternoon, with a thin stroke pen, and paying attention to all the details. Such a therapeutic activity. So I thought, why not use these illustrations to create poster printouts? Why not make this into a regular activity, so I can keep learning how to draw plants and share the results with our readers? 🙂
Welcome to Botanical Love. A whole new little feature on our blog. This will be my space to experiment with drawing plants and sharing the results with you from time to time! I will be sharing them as printable freebies down below, so that you can print them out, frame them to decorate your kitchen or gift to a friend if you like. All you gotta do is scroll down to download the printables.
These are the best Anti-Stress Herbs. Meet Rhodiola, Eleutherococcus Sentirosus (siberian ginseng), Withania Somnifera (Ashwagandha), Schisandra, Rehmannia. There’s something about those latin plant names that always mystifies me!
